Georgia and Tom waited years for their perfect winter wonderland wedding at Trevenna Barns.
Unlike most of my weddings, Georgia and Tom only booked me a couple of months ahead of their wedding day. Their original photographer could no longer honour their wedding date and so they came across me on social media while looking for a replacement. And I am so glad they did. Until this point, I had only been a guest at Trevenna and had not currently photographed a wedding there and I was itching to have a go!
The Barns are simply stunning. The surroundings are so peaceful and even on a mizzley December day, the scenery so tranquil. Of course, this all helped hugely by the fact that the florist and I were held up on the way to the venue by a herd of moorland cows who were not in the slightest bit interested in making way for us to use the road. This and the moorland ponies grazing on the verges lining the road to the barns, gave the promise of an already special day!
There was a feeling of calm excitement as I arrived to Georgia and her girls having their hair and make up done. One of the wonderful things about this venue is that both the Bride and Groom have space to get ready so I was able to catch a few moments of Tom and his groomsmen getting ready in their cottage too. I love to be able to take a few shots like this as it really helps to tell the story of the whole day. Georgia and Tom’s young son was also there to take part in the preparations, as was their niece; both of which stole the show that morning.
Georgia looked incredible, having bought her dress some four years ago when their first wedding date was set. Several rescheduled dates and one baby later and the dress she originally bought was still the dress of her dreams and she looked stunning… I can see how there was never a temptation to keep looking at more dresses as it was just perfect. Georgia’s dad came up to the bridal suite for a very emotional first look and she was ready with a good half an hour to spare before the ceremony. I always say to my brides to aim to be getting into your dress an hour before the ceremony as it gives you time to breathe, get some extra photos with those who were there with you on the morning and also because no one wants to be rushing around and feeling flustered for being late.
The Threshing Barn at Trevenna had been transformed into a winter wonderland by the very talented Unique Designs by Tina. An aisle of white blossom trees led the way to a white faux flower patch in front of the impressive sky-high windows; the perfect setting for saying ‘I do!’ The ceremony was short and sweet, with their little boy wondering freely as his mum and dad said their vows and exchanged rings and the guests then headed out to the front of the building for confetti, a bouquet toss and a group shot. If you want a photograph of all of the guests attending the wedding, the perfect opportunity to do this is straight after the confetti as everyone is present and it is then easy to get their attention and usher them into position for the group shot.
Due to the weather, we only got around ten minutes to catch some couple shots but we managed to get some very relaxed and lovely shots of the couple just being themselves. The rain then decided to intensify and we joined the party indoors where dinks and canapes were all flowing nicely.
During the reception, for which we headed indoors and out of the drizzle, the Threshing Barn was again transformed into the wedding breakfast hall of dreams. I honestly felt that I had stepped into a magazine and the display that Tina put on was on par with some of the styled shoots that I have photographed. The snow-kissed blossom trees had been rearranged into center pieces for the sequin cloth clad tables and hanging candle cups floated mystically from each tree.
The speeches were lovely and it was so clear to see that the two families were already as one with Georgia and Tom and little Archie at the centre of it and that this day was about finally making it all official and celebrating the love that they have for each other. The party started and Georgia had not one, but two first dances, one with Tom and the other with her dad which had been arranged as a wonderful surprise for her! I don’t think there was a dry eye in the building watching Georgia dance with her dad with the sentimental lyrics of the song he had chosen of ‘I loved you first’… and then the party started and they well and truly did dance the night away!
