I love The Barn at Pengelly! I have been lucy enough to photograph some of their promo material for them and also attend one of their wedding fairs where I met lots of lovely couples and have booked some dates throughout 2025 and 2026 and even now 2027 to work there!
It is purpose built; literally everything you could possibly want or need for your wedding day has been thought about. Both the inside and outside ceremony spaces are stunning; Outside on the Lower Ceremony Terrace, overlooking the lake and the greenery of the surrounding countryside; or inside the Barn itself with those iconic white drapes and low lit, modern chandeliers.
The team are just a dream to work with, helpful, considerate, organised and warm and energetic. I genuinely get excited for bookings at this venue.

Fun Fact
The Barn at Pengelly and I both established our businesses and opened to full time wedding work at the same time, in 2022.
Although I was photographing weddings and families before this, it wasn’t until 2022 that I took the plunge, handed in my notice as a teacher (after 12 years) and focused solely on photography as my career!
Wedding Day Spaces
The onsite cottages are the perfect place for your morning preparations. There is a generous choice of cottages to get ready in and so both of you can get ready on site without the risk of seeing each other before that all important moment at the end of the aisle. The cottages are a short drive away from the Barn, and the team are always on hand with the ‘Wedding Gator’ to make sure you are where you need to be on time.
You can choose to get married under the Pagoda on the Lower Ceremony Terrace or inside the venue, where a more intimate setting for smaller weddings can be created. The huge bi-fold doors span the front of the building, offering breathtaking views and a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. The upper terrace provides the perfect area for guests to mingle during your reception as well as with several grassy areas on which lawn games can be enjoyed in the sunshine.
The surrounding fields are planted with wild flowers and in the late summer, boasts an expanse of sunflowers. These are all perfect settings for some photos of just the two of you along with the new addition of the garden swing, just the perfect size for you both to sit and catch up on the day’s events so far. You can dine and feast inside or outside; and use our in-house PA systems for your background music and speeches. The backdrop of the modern but softly rustic barn is the perfect backdrop for your photographs at this point in the day.
A quick turn around and the barn is ready for your party to start! With tables left out for those who would rather observe, the conveniently placed bar serving personalised cocktails and outdoor seating so your guests can sprawl out over the carefully connected spaces.
The Changing Seasons
I think this must be the only time I can say this but every time I have photographed Pengelly, it has been glorious! Saying that, we did have quite a breeze for the outside ceremony last April, but we will take that over rain any day. It means that I have been able to photograph guests enjoying the charming outside spaces. I also love that with every changing season, this venue has something different to offer, from colourful pops of wild flowers in the summer to the golden glow of the sunflowers as we turn into autumn. Even in the starkest months, the lake with its bare and twisty trees and the little log cabin offer a slice of magic for your couple shots.
Memorable Moment
Of course it is a sunset related moment! Back last April, Grace & Josh opted for my 6 hour package, ‘Mor’. Literally just as I was about to leave, the clouds parted on what had been a rather windy day and the sun streamed through, creating the most wonderful cloudy sunset. The couple had opted for a shorter package as neither were super keen on having their photos taken. Throughout the day, I had judged that I needed to keep the photo session short and sweet. However, with the sun doing it’s thing, I quickly grabbed them and just stood them on the upper terrace so they barely realised that they were even having their photo taken and quickly snapped a few sunset portraits. Literally the best end to my session with them there!
