The Green - Georgia & Scott

Georgia and Scott had the best of both worlds on their wedding day with a beautiful church ceremony literally a stone’s throw from the house that Georgia had grown up in and their wedding reception just a short (Mustang) drive away at The Green.

Bridal Prep and Special Family Moments

I joined Georgia and her team at her parent’s home on a sunny Thursday just a few weeks ago. It was such a lovely sentiment for Georgia to be getting ready here. My first reaction was how homely and how celebrated Georgia and her sister are by her parents, with photos of the family adorning the walls and some extra touches especially for the Bride to Be! It meant a lot to both Georgia and Scott that they could get married in the church, just a two minute walk from the house and I think we were all delighted that the weather was on our side and that Georgia could do just that!

I know that Scott was also delighted that the land lady of the local pub, half way between the house and the church was opened especially for him and his groomsmen that morning so that they could have a pre-ceremony tipple to celebrate the day ahead. What better place to be able to include on your wedding day than the local where you spend evenings with family and friends. 

A heartfelt ceremony 

The church service was perfectly personal and the couple exchanged their vows under a halo of twinkling fairy lights. The church filled to bursting with the congregation, all of which holding a special place in the couple’s hearts. The exterior of the church is small for the number of guests but I reassured the couple that we wouldn’t need a huge amount of space for the confetti or the group shots that they had chosen to have done here.

With a church wedding I always suggest doing some of your group and family shots here so that your final gallery contains a mixture of both of the venues that you have chosen. Usually just your immediate family is enough here and then we can complete the rest of the ‘mantle piece’ shots later. 

Travelling in Style

The couple travelled in style to The Green, their reception venue as Scott’s dad’s Mustang was the mode of transport. When I know that the wedding car is as special as this one, I am always conscious to get as many shots of it as possible at both the start and the end location, and of course also with the couple in the shots too. 

The Green, a Versatile Venue

As previously mentioned, the weather was the sort that you can only dream of for your wedding day. The Green Room and adjoining patio at The Green provided the perfect place for Georgia and Scott’s guests to sit in the sun and mingle while drinks flowed and canopies were served.  

Despite most people praying for gleaming bright sunshine and not a cloud in the sky, which is what we had on this day, it can actually be the worst kind of weather for photography as there is a lot of harsh light, making skin tones washed out, big shadows where you don’t necessarily want them along with making everyone squint from the brightness. The Green is the most versatile venue. I have photographed this venue in almost every season and no matter what it has thrown at me, weatherwise, there is always somewhere on the premises that we can use to our advantage and get beautiful couple portraits. 

Portraits in the Really Rustic Barn

Even in the bleakest of weather, I have been able to use the Really Rustic Barn for group shots and couple portraits when the weather has been to inclement to venture outside.

Although the weather was delightful and we could have ventured outside, we opted for some group shots of the bridesmaids and groomsmen in the barn to add to the party vibe with the glowing festoon lights providing some pops of light in the images. The dark and moody interior of this barn is such fun to photograph in and the natural light flooding in through the huge barn doors means that the lighting still feels natural in the final images. 

Golden Hour Delight

I am not sure if this is a coincidence or not but just as I had been at The Green shooting a sunny spring wedding exactly one year before, and I had been shooting with the same videographer, we were also blessed with an insanely beautiful golden hour as we had been the year before. We had already been prewarned that Georgia and Scott were very keen on sunset photos and so jumped at the chance when we said it was time to go and catch the last few golden rays. I think the results speak for themselves. It can be tricky at this time of day to steal the couple away from their guests but it really only takes ten to fifteen minutes max and you will never look at those images and regret it! I promise!
