The Green is one of my two most local venues and one that is close to my heart as me and my husband got married here almost ten years ago now! It is very different to how it was back then but I still love it for many of the same reasons that I did ten years ago!
It is super versatile, there are so many iconic spaces that you can chose to tie the knot an celebrate in, along with ample accommodation for you and your guests to make a mini break out of your stay.
The Key Points
· Country Barn Wedding in a rural location on close to Bodmin Moor
· Capacity for up to 140 guests
· Guest accommodation for up to 42 guests on site
· Experienced and flexible in-house team of chefs and waiting staff
· Fully stocked and licensed bar with some Cornish favourites
· 2 ceremony rooms
· 2 outdoor ceremony locations
· 2 reception rooms
· Confetti is not allowed at this venue but I have seen so many alternatives work in such a fun way – bubbles, ribbon wands and pom poms!
Fun Facts
· The Green is overlooked by one of Bodmin moor’s most iconic tors and stone stacks called the Cheesewring. Stowes Hill, on which the Cheesewring stands, is home to a Neolithic encampment, its 6000 year old collapsed walls encircling the summit – It is well worth donning the walking gear and visiting.
· The Green has a purpose built bridal prep shepherds hut, named Preen at The Green! It is such a gorgeous space and makes the pampering feel even more luxurious on the morning of your wedding.
Wedding Day Spaces
· The bridal suite is a light and airy room at the back of the main house. That said, I have photographed bridal prep in the honeymoon cottage, the main house and also in one of the adjoining rooms.
· Your ceremony can be hosted inside or out with two options for each. The Wedding barn is beautifully whimsical with fairy lights draped from the low hanging beams. The really rustic barn is just as it says and such unique and jew-dropping space. The Oak Arbour is a short walk from the cottages and involves the most gorgeous bridal entrance. Finally, the Lake Arbour is reached through a windy path through the woods and is suitable for smaller weddings.
· The Green Room is decorated simply with white walls and solid oak floors, the Green Room Bar serves as a versatile space, doubling as a bar area where guests can gather and unwind before the ceremony. Beyond weddings, we also use this space for the arrival meal the night before and breakfast on both mornings, ensuring it remains a hub of activity throughout your stay.
· The Red Brick Barn is the ultimate celebration space! Once a humble cow shed, this barn has been transformed into a venue fit for a glamorous soirée. While the red brick walls and original beams pay homage to its rustic roots, the rest of the barn sparkles with glamour and sophistication.
· While the Really Rustic Barn may be a little less glamorous and polished than the other indoor function spaces, it offers a rustic background with an edge that’s perfect for couples looking for something unique and characterful. I love using this space on a rainy winter’s day for some couple shots with a different vibe or even for your group shots when the weather isn’t being too kind.
The Changing Seasons
I just did a quick count and realised that 80% of my weddings shot here have been in the wetter and darker months. The thing is with this venue that it is so versatile that I have never felt restricted with spaces to look for and use with wetter and colder weather.
The Really rustic barn is just one of my favourite places to get some photos of the two of you and because of the lighting set up in there (and with the additional lighting I bring), we can do this at any spare moment of your day or night with very little planning.
The Oak Arbour lends some welcome shade from the drizzle or wind and can be reached very quickly without much exposure to the elements.
Equally, the steps on the entrance of the wedding barn provides a great space for your group shots with all of the whimsical fairy lights as a backdrop to these photos.
I have shot one dreamy summer wedding here and another spring wedding where mother nature threw all the best of the sun and warm at us for the day. Exploring more of the venue with the couple for photos in these instances was such fun and gave such a different dynamic to the gallery that I was able to deliver for these guys.
Memorable Moments
Wayyy back when I was just starting out, a south west photographer went bust and left a load of couples without a photographer for their wedding days which were in the next few weeks. I offered to take on one of these couples for free, to help them out as their wedding was in less than two weeks, but also to help build my portfolio. And so, the first wedding I photographed completely solo was for Jess and Ben at The Green. I loved being back at the venue for the first time since my wedding but also it was just such a wonderful experience and completely cemented my idea that this was what I wanted to do for my job and a full time living. It gave me the drive to make a fully successful business out of wedding photography and here I still am, five years later, enjoying it as much as I did back then!
