Trevenna Barns was the Backdrop for Jenny and Josh’s Dreamy Scorcher of a Wedding Day
Driving down the lane towards Jenny and Josh’s Trevenna Barns wedding on that sweltering May morning, I knew that it was set to be an incredible day. With the temperature at 25 decrees Celsius at half past nine in the morning, I welcomed the sight of the shady lane as I approached the distinctive cluster of barns.
As always with this warm and welcoming venue, I was greeted by the wedding manager on the day and had a quick debrief about the day ahead. I always feel so welcome at this venue and as a supplier, we are really looked after from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave so I can only imagine how you are made to feel as a guest and as a couple tying the knot here. I have only ever heard glowing reviews and I know that many couples who marry here like to return and are welcomed for anniversaries and other special events throughout the year. I can totally see why!
Jenny and Josh had opted for an outdoor ceremony which meant that the Threshing barn was in full swing with preparations of the bridal party in the main barn but also of the gorgeous florals that were being prepared in the marquee by Kirsty from Escential Blooms. She creates pure magic each and every time I see her work and the presence of the florals in each space she decorates really makes for a whimsical setting.
Jenny and her many (ten I think) bridesmaids were utilizing the whole space with haor and make up stations in action both upstairs and downstairs and Josh and his boys were tucked away in one of the other barns and were also thoroughly enjoying the morning preparations.
It is one of my favourite scenarios when the couple are both getting ready on site and I will spend the morning checking in with both parties and checking timings to ensure that I capture all of the key moments. I like to make sure I have all of the details, your dress, shoes and flowers along with your jewelry and perfume. I also like to get button hole details as well as after shave, cuff links and sometimes even socks of choice!
Having a lot of bridesmaids can sometimes create a somewhat frantic atmosphere towards the end of bridal prep, so a good tip is to always give yourself plenty of time to get into your dress and then you can enjoy some photos and a final glass of fizz before heading off to walk down the aisle. An hour before the ceremony is what I would suggest as a good time frame. And with larger bridal parties, delegate jobs so that when it comes to the last few minutes of getting ready, you know who has your flowers ready, who can give you one last spray of perfume and that you know that someone can get everyone else in line ready for you!
Josh was as cool as a cucumber waiting for Jenny under the arbor and the ceremony was short and sweet and concluded with the throwing of confetti as the newlyweds walked back up the aisle to the arrival of their two gorgeous Frenchie’s, Aurora and Otis, to join in the reception and photographs.
It was getting hotter and hotter by the minute and while the guests embraced the shade from the old oak tree that covers the arbor, I stole away the happy couple and the dogs for some photos of them together. There are a few spaces at Trevenna Barns that are iconic and the lane leading down to the barns is one of them. Not only does this lane make beautiful photos, no matter the weather or season, I was also super grateful for the shade of the arched branches on this particular day.
The photos are a dream and only do Jenny and Josh look super happy and loved up but Aurora and Otis also look pleased as punch at the joining in matrimony of their mum and dad!
I love photographing the speeches at Trevenna Barns. The overhead florals frame the pictures beautifully and the backdrop of the whole wall of fairy lights juxtaposed with the green and wild outside landscape make for such dreamy and magical photos. The light is bright and airy and in winter months when the sun dips during these speeches, the light glows and creates a warm hue that means you can feel how cosy it is just by looking at the images.
On this day however, there was no dipping light during this time but we were super lucky enough to have a glorious, golden sunset. Once again, I stole the couple away, joined by just Otis this time (Aurora had had her fair share of the noise and business) and we headed down through the field to the woodland swing. Here we took some of my favourite sunset photos to date of Josh and Jenny enjoying the last of the sun on what was a truly enchanting and one-of-a-kind day.
